Last week’s adventures included A LOT of rain! These Joules Welly Print rain boots made the flood waters more bearable. I LOVE the sweet bee print and that I actually can pull these knee-high boots over my calves with no trouble. Not to mention, the soft fabric liner saved my feet from any blisters. I might just have to get another pair of these in another fabulous print (And, if this rain continues, I know I’ll need them!).
On a quiet, tree-lined street in downtown Katy, you will find an old wood-framed house bustling with activity. Memory Makers opened three years ago at 5713 Fifth St. and has since welcomed many art students, their tiny handprints lining the entry fence.
It is a true neighborhood establishment with families growing up in the program, which start at two years old and go through elementary-school age.
As children arrive, they are greeted by owner “Ms Debbie,” along with costumes, books and sensory objects related to the month’s theme. Parents can be found along benches and cushions, reading to their children before class begins.
Each class opens with a story time, which then leads to an art project connected to the book.
After finishing their art projects, children then move to the dramatic play room or – in celebration of Earth Day at this week’s class – outside, where each child brought a flower to plant in the community garden.
As a former teacher, Memory Makers immediately impressed me with the cohesiveness of each unit. Addressing many learning styles, the format serves as a great prelude to formal school or as an art supplement to homeschooling.
Ms. Debbie draws upon her years of experience as an educator to provide top-notch art education.
She offers weekly classes on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays for preschoolers (ages 2-5), elementary students (kindergarten to fifth grade) and homeschool and kindergarten-bridge students (ages 4.5 and older).
Her summer calendar includes two-hour drop off classes for preschool students and elementary students (ages three and older).
For information, visit the website or e-mail Ms. Debbie.
